Features of SensibleSTEP
SensibleSTEP is engineered with advanced functionalities to provide effective, personalized, and safe gait rehabilitation. Each feature enhances patient recovery and streamlines therapist workflow.
End-Effector Design
Patients stand on moving footplates that guide natural gait trajectories, with adjustable trunk support to ensure safety and comfort. (Source: korat SensibleSTEP report draft, 2024)
Customizable Parameters
Adjustable gait speed (0.1–5 km/h), step length, vertical/horizontal bodyweight support (up to 50% body weight), and real-time visual/kinesthetic feedback for personalized therapy. (Source: Lerdsin Pilot Study, 2023)
Advanced Modules
Includes biofeedback, visual scenarios for patient engagement, and Knee Bot modules to enhance knee joint control during training. (Source: ร่าง ตำรา locomotor therapy ไทย 2025 03 26 เช้า.docx)
User-Friendly Interface
Intuitive setup reduces therapist training time and fatigue, allowing focus on patient care. (Source: Evaluation of SensibleSTEP, 2024)
Safety Mechanisms
Emergency stop systems and sturdy handrails ensure safe operation for patients with neurological impairments or post-surgical recovery needs.
Benefits of SensibleSTEP
SensibleSTEP delivers transformative benefits, offering superior outcomes, versatile applications, and cost-effective rehabilitation in a safe and evidence-based manner.
Superior Recovery Outcomes
Not all robots are the same—SensibleSTEP outperforms exoskeleton devices, with 30.6% of dependent patients gaining independent walking after 10 sessions (p<0.0001). Improves Functional Ambulation Category (FAC), gait speed, and balance in stroke, spinal cord injury (SCI), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and post-hip fracture recovery. Versatile Applications
Perfect choice of device to apply locomotor therapy principles in severely affected patients who cannot walk independently. The SensibleSTEP’s adjustable features—speed, step length, bodyweight support, and feedback—allow patients to train at the right difficulty level, progressively targeting the four fundamental gait skills from weakest to near-normal levels:
  • Dynamic Knee Stability Control in Stance Phase: Adjustable footplate motion and Knee Bot modules support precise knee alignment, enabling patients with weak or unstable knees to build strength and stability during weight-bearing.
  • Dynamic Weight Shifting and Balance Through the Whole Gait Cycle: Variable bodyweight support (vertical/horizontal) and real-time feedback help patients practice weight transfer safely, improving balance from severe impairment to functional levels.
  • Maintenance of Trunk Verticality: Adjustable trunk support ensures proper posture, allowing patients to progress from requiring full support to maintaining upright posture independently.
  • Effortless Generation of Swing Action: Customizable speed and step length, combined with biofeedback, facilitate smooth leg swing, helping patients transition from assisted to natural swing movements.
